Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Amboseli National Park

Morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel and drive south to Amboseli. The journey passes through Maasai land where you may spot livestock herded by traditionally dressed warriors.

Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. Settle into your room—most lodges offer Kilimanjaro views from private verandas.

Afternoon game drive exploring the southern circuits of the park. Amboseli’s elephants are famous, but the park also supports healthy populations of lions, spotted hyenas, jackals, and numerous antelope species.

Sunset at Observation Hill overlooking the park before returning for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Amboseli – Elephants & Predators

Depart at dawn for the best chance of clear Kilimanjaro views and active wildlife. Head to the marshes where elephants congregate in large numbers during early morning and late afternoon.

Spend time observing elephant behavior—their complex social structures, communication, and family bonds are endlessly fascinating. Your guide will explain how researchers identify individual elephants and what we’ve learned from decades of study.

Return for brunch, then relax during the heat of the day.

Afternoon drive focuses on predators. Amboseli’s lions often rest in acacia woodlands or on small hills offering vantage points. Cheetahs prefer the open plains where they can use their speed.

Night at Amboseli.

Day 3: Amboseli Wetlands & Bird Safari

Morning exploring the swamps and springs that sustain Amboseli’s wildlife. Underground rivers from Kilimanjaro’s glaciers emerge here, creating lush wetlands in an otherwise dry landscape. Hippos, waterbuck, and buffalo gather near the water while over 400 bird species make this a birding hotspot.

Look for African fish eagles, martial eagles, secretary birds, crowned cranes, and numerous waterfowl. Your guide will help identify species both common and rare.

Afternoon drive through the dusty lake bed—when dry, this vast expanse becomes a stage for dramatic dust-devil photography with elephants.

Evening at leisure with optional stargazing—Amboseli’s remote location offers exceptional dark skies.

Dinner and overnight in Amboseli.

Day 4: Amboseli – Nairobi

Early game drive for final Kilimanjaro photo opportunities and farewells to the elephants. Return to the lodge for breakfast.

Check out and drive to Nairobi with a scenic stop en route. Arrive early afternoon with time for connecting flights or onward travel.
