Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya
Depart Nairobi and drive north through the central highlands to Mount Kenya. The fertile farmland gives way to forested mountain slopes.
Arrive at your lodge for lunch with views of the mountain (weather permitting). Afternoon forest drive or nature walk exploring the montane ecosystem.
Dinner and overnight at Mount Kenya.
Day 2: Mount Kenya – Samburu
Morning exploration of Mount Kenya’s forests before breakfast. Spot elephants, buffaloes, and forest birds in the cool morning air.
After breakfast, drive north descending from the highlands into the semi-arid lands of Samburu (approximately 4 hours). The landscape transformation is dramatic—from lush green forest to arid savannah dotted with doum palms.
Arrive at your Samburu lodge along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Afternoon game drive beginning your search for the Samburu Special Five.
Dinner and overnight in Samburu.
Day 3: Samburu National Reserve
Morning and afternoon game drives exploring Samburu’s unique wildlife and landscapes. Focus on finding Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, gerenuks, Somali ostriches, and Beisa oryx.
The Ewaso Nyiro River attracts large elephant herds and offers excellent predator viewing—lions, leopards, and cheetahs hunt in Samburu.
Mid-day relaxation at your riverside lodge watching wildlife from the terrace.
Dinner and overnight in Samburu.
Day 4: Samburu Exploration
Another full day in Samburu to fully appreciate this remarkable reserve. Morning game drive along the river and through different habitat zones.
Optional visit to a Samburu village to learn about local culture and traditions.
Afternoon game drive focusing on any species you haven’t yet seen. Samburu often provides surprises—wild dogs occasionally pass through, and leopards are relatively common.
Farewell dinner in Samburu.
Day 5: Samburu – Nairobi
Morning game drive for final Samburu wildlife. Return to the lodge for breakfast.
Drive back to Nairobi through the central highlands. Arrive in the late afternoon with hotel or airport drop-off.
