Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Nakuru National Park
Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive north through the agricultural highlands. Descend into the Great Rift Valley via the dramatic escarpment road with photo stops at the viewpoint.
Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park in time for lunch at your lodge. Lake Nakuru is a soda lake, part of the Rift Valley’s chain of alkaline lakes that support unique ecosystems.
Afternoon game drive around the lake. Depending on water levels and algae conditions, flamingos may number in the thousands, creating spectacular pink carpets along the shore. The park also provides sanctuary for both black and white rhinos—excellent viewing opportunities exist here.
Look for the endangered Rothschild giraffe, lions (including occasional tree-climbing individuals), leopards, buffaloes, and waterbuck.
Dinner and overnight at your Lake Nakuru lodge.
Day 2: Lake Nakuru – Nairobi
Early morning game drive to catch wildlife at their most active. Drive to viewpoints overlooking the lake for panoramic photography of the flamingos and surrounding landscape.
Explore different areas of the park including the woodland and cliffs of the southern section—good leopard territory. Baboons and colobus monkeys inhabit the forest edges.
Return to the lodge for breakfast and check out. Drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the early afternoon. Optional stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint on the return journey.
