Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Nakuru

Morning departure from Nairobi, driving north through the highlands and descending into the Great Rift Valley. Stop at the escarpment viewpoint for photos.

Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park for lunch. Afternoon game drive around the lake and through the surrounding woodlands and grasslands. The park’s compact size means excellent wildlife density—rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and Rothschild giraffes are all present.

Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara

Early morning game drive at Lake Nakuru to maximize your time in this beautiful park. Return for breakfast at the lodge.

Check out and drive southwest to the Maasai Mara National Reserve (approximately 5 hours). The journey passes through agricultural land and Maasai territory with its scattered villages and cattle herds.

Arrive in time for a late lunch followed by an afternoon game drive in the Mara. The transition from Nakuru’s forested hills to the Mara’s open savannah is dramatic.

Dinner and overnight in the Maasai Mara.

Day 3: Full Day in Maasai Mara

Full day exploring the Maasai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. The reserve is famous for its exceptional lion population, and sightings of prides hunting or resting are common.

Visit the Mara River to see hippos and crocodiles. During migration season (July-October), the river crossings provide some of nature’s most dramatic spectacles.

Optional Maasai village visit to learn about traditional culture, or book a sunrise hot air balloon safari for an unforgettable aerial perspective (additional cost).

Dinner and overnight in the Maasai Mara.

Day 4: Maasai Mara – Nairobi

Final morning game drive in the Mara. Return to your lodge for breakfast and check out.

Drive back to Nairobi via the Great Rift Valley, arriving in the late afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel or the airport for onward travel.
