Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Depart Nairobi and drive north to Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia (approximately 4 hours). Ol Pejeta is East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary and home to the last two northern white rhinos on Earth.
Arrive for lunch with views of Mount Kenya. Afternoon game drive and visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary—the only place to see chimps in Kenya (rescued from illegal trafficking).
Dinner and overnight at Ol Pejeta.
Day 2: Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Morning rhino tracking experience with armed rangers. Follow black rhinos on foot in the sanctuary, learning about conservation challenges and successes.
Visit the northern white rhino enclosure where the last two individuals, Najin and Fatu, live under 24-hour armed protection. Learn about efforts to save this functionally extinct subspecies through assisted reproduction.
Afternoon game drive searching for lions, elephants, and the conservancy’s healthy wildlife populations. Ol Pejeta’s predator density is exceptional.
Dinner and overnight at Ol Pejeta.
Day 3: Ol Pejeta – Mount Kenya Region
Morning drive to the Mount Kenya region. Check into a lodge or camp with dramatic views of Africa’s second-highest peak.
Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the mountain scenery. Optional nature walks, trout fishing, or horseback riding (additional cost).
Dinner and overnight with Mount Kenya views.
Day 4: Mount Kenya – Samburu
Depart Mount Kenya and drive north to Samburu National Reserve. The landscape becomes increasingly arid as you descend from the highlands.
Arrive at your Samburu lodge for lunch overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River.
Afternoon game drive beginning your search for the Samburu Special Five. The river attracts elephants, crocodiles, and diverse birdlife.
Dinner and overnight in Samburu.
Day 5: Samburu National Reserve
Full day exploring Samburu with morning and afternoon game drives. Focus on finding all five northern specials: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and Beisa oryx.
Leopards are relatively common here—your guide knows their territories. Lions and cheetahs also hunt the open areas.
Evening Samburu cultural experience (optional).
Dinner and overnight in Samburu.
Day 6: Samburu Exploration
Another full day in Samburu to appreciate this unique ecosystem. Morning drive along the river and through palm-dotted savannah.
Mid-day relaxation at the lodge. Afternoon drive exploring different areas based on wildlife sightings and guide recommendations.
Farewell dinner in Samburu.
Day 7: Samburu – Nairobi
Early morning game drive for final wildlife encounters. Return to the lodge for breakfast.
Drive back to Nairobi through the central highlands, arriving in the late afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
