Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Shimba Hills

Arrive at Mombasa’s Moi International Airport or Ukunda airstrip. Meet your guide and drive to Shimba Hills National Reserve (approximately 1.5 hours from Mombasa).

Check into your tree lodge—built overlooking a waterhole where elephants and buffaloes come to drink and bathe. Lunch on the viewing platform.

Afternoon game drive through the coastal rainforest. Shimba Hills protects Kenya’s only population of sable antelope—large, striking animals with curved horns. Elephants are common, along with buffalo, leopard, and numerous forest species.

Visit Sheldrick Falls—a beautiful waterfall cascading through the forest.

Return to the lodge for dinner and night viewing from the waterhole platform. Elephants often visit after dark.

Day 2: Shimba Hills – Diani Beach

Morning game drive searching for sable antelope and other wildlife. The forest wakes up early with birds and monkeys creating a dawn chorus.

Return for breakfast at the lodge before check out. Drive to Diani Beach (approximately 1 hour), arriving at your beach hotel in time for lunch.

Afternoon at leisure on Diani’s pristine white sand beach. The warm Indian Ocean is perfect for swimming, and coral reefs offshore offer snorkeling and diving.

Dinner at the beach hotel or nearby restaurants.

Day 3: Diani Beach

Full day to enjoy Diani Beach’s attractions. Options include:

  • Snorkeling or diving on coral reefs
  • Kite surfing (Diani is a world-class destination)
  • Visit the Colobus Conservation center
  • Dhow sunset cruise
  • Visit Kaya Kinondo sacred forest
  • Simply relaxing on the beach

Or take an optional excursion (additional cost) to:

  • Wasini Island for dolphin watching and snorkeling
  • Mombasa Old Town and Fort Jesus
  • Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park

Overnight at Diani Beach.

Day 4: Departure

Morning at leisure for final beach time or activities. Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time for a morning swim or walk along the beach.

Transfer to Ukunda airstrip or Mombasa airport for your departure flight. Alternatively, extend your beach stay or continue to Nairobi.
