Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Tsavo West

Afternoon game drive introducing Tsavo West’s volcanic landscapes and diverse wildlife. Spot elephants, giraffes, and zebras against a backdrop of the Chyulu Hills.

Dinner and overnight at your Tsavo West lodge.

Day 2: Tsavo West Exploration

Full day exploring Tsavo West’s highlights. Morning visit to Mzima Springs where hippos and crocodiles live in remarkably clear water. The underwater viewing chamber provides a unique perspective.

Continue to the Shetani Lava Flows—a stark reminder of the region’s volcanic past. The contrast between black lava and surrounding greenery is striking.

Afternoon game drive through the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary area, searching for black rhino, leopard, and other wildlife.

Dinner and overnight in Tsavo West.

Day 3: Tsavo West – Tsavo East

Morning game drive in Tsavo West before departing for Tsavo East. Cross via the Mombasa highway, entering Tsavo East—Kenya’s largest national park—in the early afternoon.

The landscape transforms dramatically from Tsavo West’s hills to Tsavo East’s flat, open savannah. Afternoon game drive along the Galana River, where large elephant herds come to drink and bathe.

Dinner and overnight in Tsavo East.

Day 4: Tsavo East Highlights

Full day exploring Tsavo East’s vast wilderness. Morning drive to Lugard Falls, where the Galana River churns through colorful rock channels.

Continue to the Yatta Plateau for views across the park. The plateau is the world’s longest lava flow, creating a distinctive escarpment.

Afternoon game drive in the open savannah searching for lions, cheetahs, and the park’s famous red elephants. The spacious terrain means excellent photography opportunities.

Final night in Tsavo East.

Day 5: Tsavo East – Departure

Morning game drive for last wildlife encounters. Return to the lodge for breakfast.

Check out and drive to either Nairobi (approximately 5 hours) or Mombasa (approximately 3 hours) for onward travel. Beach extensions in Diani or Watamu are easily arranged from Mombasa.
